 Special Announcements

Hey Hawks!! Have you gotten your Spirit Sleeves yet?  Well good news!  Spirit Sleeves are going on sale for $7 for the rest of Homecoming Week.  Get them now in the Hawk’s Nest.

DECA will be doing the Miracle Minute again at this Friday’s assembly.  All donations go to Project Mercy and The Cunningham Foundation to help children in developing countries.  So bring a dollar or two on Friday for a worthy cause.  AND The grade that donates the most should look out for some free Spirit Sleeves.

It’s Homecoming week and time to show your spirit.  Each day you can show your Hawk pride by dressing the part for each day.  Thursday is Smarties day. Time to dig down and find your inner nerd.  And of course Friday is Licorice day. 9th & 10th grade wear Maroon, 11th & 12th wear black.

Tickets for homecoming are being sold in the Student Center.  They are $12 pre-sale and $15 at the door, and will be sold periods 1st – 7th.

Also Hawks; Looking to score a couple of tickets to the Homecoming dance?  Fly into the Hawk’s Nest and make a purchase.  For each purchase you make you can enter the raffle.  The big drawing will take place on Thursday October 4th.  So, the more you eat the better your chance.  Dance till you drop and have fun.

Counseling News

STUDENTS: College Fairs are not all alike! The most recent Fair held at Mountain Range High School focused primarily on in-state colleges. These upcoming College Fairs have a different focus. These are open to all students throughout Denver, so feel free to attend any that you might find interesting and see the bulletin across from the Counseling Office for more details.

Today, October 4 is the Christian College Fair at Faith Christian Academy, Arvada from 6:30 - 8:30

Sunday, October 7 is the National College Fair at the Colorado Convention Center, Denver from 1:00 - 4:00 *You must register ahead of time. See your counselor.

Wednesday, October 10 is the Out-of-State College Fair at Monarch High School in Louisville from 6:30 - 8:30

Thursday, October 11 is the Out-of-State College Fair at John F. Kennedy High School in Denver from 6:30 - 8:30

Saturday, October 13 is the Saturday College Fair and Workshops at Mountain Vista High School in Highlands Ranch from 10:00 - 2:00

If you are a college-bound 10th or 11th grader, now is the time to bring $25 to the Counseling Office and sign up to take the PSAT test. The test will be given on October 17, and spaces are limited to a first-come, first-served basis. Why take the PSAT? Because, for juniors, it is the ONLY WAY you can qualify for high-dollar National Merit Scholarships since these scholarships do not consider GPA or any other factor other than your PSAT score. Sophomores nation-wide often take the PSATas practice so that , as juniors, they will score higher. Additionally, the PSAT is your only chance to practice for the SAT test, which many students use for college admissions if they score higher on it than on the ACT.

There will be an informational session on Saturday, October 27, from 10:-- - noon at the Anschutz Medical Campus to provide you with an overview of the program and the application process. See counseling bulletin board for more information.
