Horizon High School

tuesday, October 9, 2012

Are you bored after school with nothing to do? Well, maybe Tennis Club is the answer. Coach Le would like to invite you every Tuesday and Thursday (weather-permitting), from 3:30pm-5:00pm, to come out to Horizon’s tennis courts and play. It’s a fun way to meet new friends, learn a new sport, and get some exercise. If you would like more information, please check the flyers in the hallway and contact Coach Le.”

Hey Hawks would you like to go to the game on Thursday?  There will be a Spirit bus going to Rocky Mountain High School at 4:00. But wait that’s not all. Before the game you can go to the Student Center for pizza. The cost is only $5 to ride and eat.

Counseling News

STUDENTS: College Fairs are not all alike! The most recent Fair held at Mountain Range High School focused primarily on in-state colleges. These upcoming College Fairs have a different focus. These are open to all students throughout Denver, so feel free to attend any that you might find interesting and see the bulletin across from the Counseling Office for more details.

Wednesday, October 10 is the Out-of-State College Fair at Monarch High School in Louisville from 6:30 - 8:30

Thursday, October 11 is the Out-of-State College Fair at John F. Kennedy High School in Denver from 6:30 - 8:30

Saturday, October 13 is the Saturday College Fair and Workshops at Mountain Vista High School in Highlands Ranch from 10:00 - 2:00

If you are a college-bound 10th or 11th grader, now is the time to bring $25 to the Counseling Office and sign up to take the PSAT test. The test will be given on October 17, and spaces are limited to a first-come, first-served basis. Why take the PSAT? Because, for juniors, it is the ONLY WAY you can qualify for high-dollar National Merit Scholarships since these scholarships do not consider GPA or any other factor other than your PSAT score. Sophomores nation-wide often take the PSATas practice so that , as juniors, they will score higher. Additionally, the PSAT is your only chance to practice for the SAT test, which many students use for college admissions if they score higher on it than on the ACT.

There will be an informational session on Saturday, October 27, from 10:-- - noon at the Anschutz Medical Campus to provide you with an overview of the program and the application process. See counseling bulletin board for more information.
